   Have you tried to send this information to Microsoft windows section and asking them for a solution to your problem let them know your OS when you do as this may help them fix the problem in other versions of that OS cheers

   What is the OS loaded on the laptop? is it vista or xp? What you need to do is go into recovery console and type chkdsk /r let it run through and then it should boot up once that is done.

   Bad news first you can not have a bad sector on track zero! And still use the drive. But you can get some of the data off using Nortons for windows 98.The first 10% is the same way bad sectors hard to work around.
