   DOWNLOADING
   VIRUS & SPYWARE PROTECTION
   (& steps for protecting PC)
   For XP

   Use the programs twice once without internet on, and once with it running. The only program that will work in safemode F8 is AVG anti-spy ware.
   Also go to control panel, internet options-privacy tab-make sure the popup blocker box is checked.
   Move the slider bar to med-high-click apply-OK
   Also on control panel-system-Remote-make sure both boxes are unchecked-click apply-OK (this will keep hackers from getting into computer when left on and no one is around or home)
   (all other virus programs and spyware programs should be deleted)
   AVG FOR VIRUS PROTECTION
   AVG anti FOR SPYWARE, MALWARE, ROOTKITS
   BOTH FOUND AT http://www.grifsoft.com or go to yahoo and enter in search box –
   AVG
   VIRUS PROGRAM

   1. FIRST STEP GO TO YAHOO AND TYPE IN: AVG FREE DOWNLOAD

   2. CHOOSE THE ONE THAT SAYS :AVG FREE ADVISOR – FREE ANTIVIRUS AND ANTI-SPYWARE DOWNLOADS (should be about the 3rd one down) CLICK IT
   (avg-anti spyware is also for mal-ware and root kits)

   3. ONCE THAT PAGE OPENS YOU WILL SEE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF PAGE FREE BASIC PROTECTION AND A ORANGE BOX THAT SAYS DOWNLOAD, CLICK IT

   4.NEXT PAGE OPENS YOU WILL SEE PRODUCT COMPARISON, GO TO THE ONE ON THE FAR RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM, SEE WHERE IT SAYS FREE AND ANOTHER ORANGE BOX, CLICK IT

   5. CLICK CONTINUE TO DOWNLOAD ANTI-VIRUS DOWNLOAD ONLY, CLICK THOSE WORDS

   6. NEW PAGE OPENS WITH DOWNLOADS ON IT, SEE THE ORANGE BOX AGAIN SAYS DOWNLOAD NOW AT DOWNLOAD.COM AND YOU ALSO SEE 5 RED STARS, CLICK THE BOX

   7. LAST STEP, NEW PAGE OPENS, CLICK THE DOWNLOAD NOW BOX AND WHEN THE NEXT BOX OPENS CHOOSE SAVE TO DESKTOP AND LET THE DOWNLOAD BEGIN, SIZE IS 31.45MB

   ONCE YOU DONE WITH THIS FILE MOVE IT TO A FOLDER IN MY DOCUMENTS IN CASE YOU NEED IT AGAIN

   Hello Victoria.

   Everyone has given you some good free sites to check out. Since no one has suggested it, I’d like to point you to CA anti virus. Yes, this is not a freeware or shareware program but if you check around with the various search engines you should be able to find one of their "One Year Free Trial" offers. I did a while back and it is an excellent anti-virus setup. You will likely decide to purchase this excellent PC tool when the free year is up. Their subscription prices are comparable to or lower than the other mainstream anti virus utilities.

   Search for CA anti virus and also Computer Associates anti virus.

   Everything should work out fine one way or another as long as you follow any of the answers you’ve gotten.

   There are alot of free antivirus…AVG, Avast and many others. You might check out http://www.cnet.com for a bigger list… I use Avast and love it.

    If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but please choose the right one for you (install only one):

    1. AVG Free
    a. A simple interface (easier to use than Avast! and Avira)
    b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
    Cons: low virus detection

    2. Avast!
    a. Real-time protection
    b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
    c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
    Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

    3. Avira AntiVir
    a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
    b. It’s cute umbrella icon
    c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
    Cons: A very sluggish update

    Whatever you decide, do not choose Norton. It will cause serious problems and eat your computer’s resources. Kaspersky or NOD32 are the best (recent tests at av-comparatives.org).
