   It sounds like a pain, but reinstalling your operating system is by far the best way to clean your computer. If you use an external hard drive to back up your files, it is not difficult at all. A fresh clean install of the OS will be remarkably fast, especially if you use the recovery disks that came with the computer, since they usually don’t have all of the stupid junk that comes with the preinstalled OS (I obviously use windows).

   I reinstall windows (Vista Business) at least every year. I can turn my computer on in under a minute with a fresh install – six months to a year later it takes at least 5 minutes.

   Also, defragment often, at least once a week (I do so daily). I use diskeeper and it is amazing, but use whatever works for you. My comp is usually noticeably faster after defragmenting, even if I have just done it the day before.

   You may clean up your disk with the system owned Disk Clean-up function. And remove some unwanted programs, then install an anti-virus software to protect your computer more.

   Clean out programs you don’t use
   Defrag Often
   Try CCleaner: I do this every few days, it cleans out registery stuff, temp files, etc http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

   Also, my computer was real slow before and lots of problems, but I replaced RAM and it was good again.

   you could delete all of the temporary files that your computer holds. delete cookies. get faster internet. get a faster web browser. i think that there is some software that also cleans out your computer and makes it go faster, cant name any off the top of my head (you can google and find some). etc.

   Compress your uneeded items into a ZIP or RAR archive. Then store these in another ZIP or RAR. This frees up space.

    Download CCleaner, it’ll get rid of any files that are temporary and taking up space. It always works well for me and after a couple hours on the computer, i check it and i end up deleting quite a bit of useless files! 😀
