   Well you’re going to get two answers here.

   Most people will tell you to use the free cleaner "CCleaner" which u can get from http://www.ccleaner.com – but this is BAD because it just tries to find as many problems as possible to make itself look good (why else would it be free)?

   You need to be careful with the regsitry because it’s a crucial part of your system. If you screw up one of the important files inside it, you’re going to have BIG problems down the line… so you need to be sure the registry cleaner you use will be as "delicate" as possible with your PC.

   The best regsitry cleaner I’ve used is one called "RegCure". It’s very fast at scanning and it speeds up your computer a lot. You can see exactly what it does here: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html

   i use wisecleaner "wise registry cleaner 4" and iobit "smartdefrag", and they both work great and both are free!! they both are also programmable to run at specific times for your convenience. go to http://www.wisecleaner.com and http://www.iobit.com. wisecleaner also has a free disk cleaner that works great too, called "wise disk cleaner 4".

   Ahh, great question. I’m in the same need you are, but in a different situation of disrepair. One that I tried and was successful at using was called CCleaner. Here’s a link. Good luck with the repair of your computer! In response to your defragmentation question, depending on your OS you should be able to use the Windows defragmenter. Find this utility by doing the following:
   -Start
   -Programs
   -Accessories
   -System Tools
   -Disk Defragmenter
