   The first thing you can do is find out why it’s slow. "Fixing" things that aren’t causing it to be slow won’t speed it up. (Contrary to popular misinformation, adding RAM doesn’t speed a computer up. If you have enough RAM to hold all the programs you’re running, adding RAM won’t do a thing.)

   If it’s running as fast as it should, but you just want it to be faster, there’s nothing you can do. Most commercial computers (as opposed to those you build yourself) have no way to change the motherboard speed, so putting in a faster CPU is a waste of money – it’ll still run at the speed the motherboard runs it.

   You could defrag your hard drive, so disk access will be a little faster. Other than changing hardware (and that usually ends up with your spending enough for a new computer, but having an old computer with a few faster parts), that’s about the only thing that’s universally applicable.

   more memory, faster hard drive, faster processor. are the only true ways to increase speed, you may have spyware, trojans, or other malware slowing you down, but you were not to specific on what you have(OS, amount of memory, computer model, laptop or desktop, antivirus) so if you are running a windowsME with 64mb of memory using dial-up, it would be hard for me to recommend, a registry cleaner, I would say buy a new computer, and get some high speed internet.
