i have tried Ccleaner and a few other free downloads and once they run the scan they say I need to buy the real version because I have to many files found to be cleaned up. I need to make sure I don't get rid of anything important that is installed on my computer.

the answer is very simple my friend, I've done this many times. 1.run cc cleaner 2.very carefully check on whats being removed 3. if your OK with that let it run and remove as many files as it will or just remove some of the files on its list until it will run the rerun it until you get all the crap off your system, beware cc cleaner will take some needed files if you don't thoroughly check before it deletes, so be careful and take your time.
First off, learn how to download and stop getting trialware ore shareware, that junk has more phone-homes than IE does.
Run them in safe mode, and remove them in safe mode. Then make a backup of all the data, hose that system and reinstall. An ISO or Image or CD-RWs, maybe 6 for Vista or 10 if its 50g of music + an OS.
Then put the system back on, Clean install, get a Firewall, and AV, but make a backup every day. Takes 6 CD-RWs , 3 on even days, 3 on odd days for me to restore any corruptions and that includes WindowsXP/Win2k/Linux/BeOS and any files that I don't want hanging around online.
1.norton antivirus or avast antivirus [ virus scan ]
and
2.tuneup utility 2007 [ checks for registry problems ]
try both these softwares and they are more than enough .do tell me the results!good luck!
I have CCleaner and it has never ever asked me to buy the "real version".

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.
In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.
Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn off system restore
After the malware is removed turn on system restore.
