20 meg and I feel like my computer could need a little boost to speed up as well. It is a Compaq 3300+AMD Athlon 64 processor with 512 MB PC3200 DOR SDRram memory, 250 gb/7200 rpm. I have done defrag, utilities cleaners,start-up cleaning.

Defenitely more memory would be the first thing I would get for the computer. I personally like to get my parts from tiger direct. Here is the memory I recently purchased for my home computer and several systems here at work.

Stick more memory in it. 512MB is rather on the low side.
If you’re on a tight budget, the very first thing is to upgrade system memory (ie RAM)
Check how much memory your mainboard(motherboard) can fit. You can refer to your motherboard’s manual. If you don’t have the manual, check Compaq’s website (its under Hewlett Packard now) for a pdf manual. If they don’t have a pdf manual, try contacting technical support and see if they know about your computer’s maximum memory.
Recommended Memory amounts: 2 GB or more
Why: more memory means more programs can run at the same time.
