   If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don’t always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

   First, if you haven’t cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC’s resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

   2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space.Here is how:

   1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
   2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
   3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
   4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
   5. Click OK.

   3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

   1. Open your Start menu.
   2. Click Run
   3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
   4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
   5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
   6. Click "OK"

   Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.

   A defrag will be your cheapest option as a computer 4years old is not going to be easy to upgrade compatible components. Windows has a built-in defrag program or try a 3rd party util like diskkeaper or something which I think can do a boot time defrag too to alleviate your startup time. It should work wonders!

   By the way, you can’t run XP on 128MB RAM… MS must have left off a 0 when they came up with that. It will run on 256MB for the average person doing e-mails and stuff, run moderately with 512MB but if you spend a lot of time on the PC, a gig is the Rolls Royce!

   flow blow steps:
   1- make De fragmentation
   2- scan your computer and neutralize from viruses
   3- open side cover and cleaning mother Bord from dust using air plower,
   the ab ave steps necessary make it and see is their any improve ,if not check the following and increasing it :
   1 -ram if your using windows xp you need minimum 128
   M B
   2- are you use internal or external video card
   3- cpu speed if less than 1.7 GHZ you need more

   try to go to System Tools and choose Disk Clean up, or maybe defrag your PC. But defrag takes a long time. If your PC is connected in an internet, it’s just normal if it slows down a bit ‘coz many infos enters your pc.

   by getting rid of ur background on ur screen and just having a plain one

   dragging ur icons down to the bar at the bottom

   cleaning ur disk once and a while

   increading ur ram

   buy a better graphics card if ur into playing games.

    RAM size is a huge factor on how fast programs and windows loads. If you are editing video or play games, then CPU is another factor.

    I would do this things:
    – Run a disk check to be sure you have no bad sectors on your hard drive.
    – Run disk defragmenter to organize your hard drive.

    If these don’t help then:
    – Upgrade your RAM (size and speed)
    – Upgrade your CPU.

    Keep in mind though, that 32 bit components are on their way out. I recently had to buy a new computer (in a sense) just to get more speed since they didn’t have 32 bit. I would start with the least expensive and work my way up from there. If all else fails, ask them to rebuild your computer, and upgrade the Motherboard, CPU, Memory, and Power Supply.
