I downloaded what I thought was a completely free registry cleaner last night… turns out it was a trial. I don't have any money to spend, and I have enough crap wrong with my computer already, so I'm looking for a FREE and TRUSTWORTHY registry cleaner. Any *good* free anti-spyware/malware/virus programs are appreciated as well.

Well you're going to get two answers here.
Most people will tell you to use the free cleaner "CCleaner" which u can get from http://www.ccleaner.com – but this is BAD because it just tries to find as many problems as possible to make itself look good (why else would it be free)?
You need to be careful with the regsitry because it's a crucial part of your system. If you screw up one of the important files inside it, you're going to have BIG problems down the line… so you need to be sure the registry cleaner you use will be as "delicate" as possible with your PC.
The best regsitry cleaner I've used is one called "RegCure". It's very fast at scanning and it speeds up your computer a lot. You can see exactly what it does here: http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/regcure_review.html
ccleaner is best registry cleaner, its free.
Try this…..

A "trustworthy" registry cleaner? With results varying greatly between them all, how can you tell the best from the worst – or the trustworthy from the untrustworthy? Is the one that finds the most problems the best? or is it 'fixing' things that don't need to be fixed?
Don't bother with a registry cleaner – you can do far more harm than good – especially if what you are using doesn't give you the option of backing up your registry first. And besides, cleaning your registry doesn't really make a difference performance-wise anyway. Look more to cleaning temp files/cache/etc and uninstalling programs you don't use anymore.
