I changed to Avast a few months ago, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
Check out Spyhunter here:

Remember to always keep your antivirus and anti-spyware applications up to date and fully functional.
KAspersky, Bitdefender and Norton as describe here:

I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. I have McAfee which works great for protection but nearly cripples my laptop because it is a resource hog. I’ve tried a freebie (can’t remember which) and that bombarded me with advertisements. So at least don’t do these two things I did!
Hmm… your computer notified you that it has viruses? Was it an alert message from your current Anti-virus program? (If so, what are you presently using?) Or was it a pop-up that appeared while you were browsing the Internet which stated that "Your computer is infected, click here to scan for free" (or something similar). If it was the latter, then the message was actually caused by a virus. If AT&T/SBC/YAHOO is your Internet provider, you can download McAfee Security suit for free from the member account page. It includes an anti-virus/malware scanner with active protection, firewall, Site Advisor, email scanner, and several other tools. However, if you would like software that is easier to use and does not use as much system resourses (processor and memory) you can always go with SpyBot Search and Destroy, AVG, or both. These programs can all be downloaded from download.com, are free to use, require no subscription, and are more effective than big-name paid services such as Norton. Hope this helps
Hi,
You could go to download.com and check out their list of antivirus programs. There are some free for personal use antivirus programs, I’m using Avira 9 free, it has antispyware included. downloaded from Download.com. Be sure to check the user comments. Too bad you didn’t have an antivirus program before. By the way there are fake antivirus websites that tell you that you have viruses, it’s a scam. Don’t buy an antivirus program from one of these websites not only will you lose what you pay for their rip off products but your card, maybe even your id can be stolen by them. Go to download.com, it’s downloads are scanned for viruses and malware before they put them up. If you can’t download or install any of the antivirus programs from download.com than you have malware that is preventing you from doing so. You’ll either have to have an expert fix it or maybe reformatting and reinstalling Windows will remove all traces of the malware but it removes all traces of your personal files and apps too so back your personal stuff up to an external drive before reformatting and reinstalling Windows OR YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR PERSONAL DATA LIKE DOCS,PHOTOS, ETC.
