All AntiVirus Companies give a trial version get a trial version from one that you think is good or from all and decide which one is best for you, i wont recommend any because it has tons of people telling you a bunch of stuff about antiviruses thats not even true.
NO SUCH PROGRAM EXISTS that will NOT slow down your computer.
I have tried just about every free (and several pay) programs out there and they all slow down the machine to one degree or another.
I have not had so much as one problem since I went with McAfee Security Suite. I got a two year subscription for $99. It has all you mentioned plus numerous other additions, including SiteAdvisor which alerts you to dangerous websites that hit you with e-mails, adware and spyware. I like a free program as much as the next guy, but I consider McAfee well worth the money. (You’ve heard the old saying, "You get what you pay for").
I also use Windows Advanced Care V2 Personal (free). It has several other little goodies like a memory manager and a cookie manager that I use daily.
As for all the FREE virus protection I have tried, I have still gotten viruses with each of them.
I dont think that there is any software like it. But i know another way. Just get Google toolbar it has pop up blocker. And there is a virus protection software named Avast very common and 95% computers have it. I f you wanna get rid of some virus i suggest Spyware Doctor. That is the best it deleted all of my computers 890 viruses. LOL. I garuntee that it will not slow down
turn off your computer, and go outside and live… that’s the only FREE way to use virus protection that won’t slow down your computer.
The way a virus scanner works is it keeps searching your HD for every file write and checks it. So your computer is doing 3x the work for writing a file now. No way it won’t slow you down.
AVG 7.5 free edition for Antivirus
Outpost Firewall
Google toolbar for popup blocking
Spybot for antispyware
SpywareGuard for Antispyware
SpywareBlaster for Antispyware
All free and links to them can be found here>>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.html
free?
cant beat avg then
I don’t know of a free antivirus program that also includes a firewall and popup blocker, but you can get these program separately and for free:
-Grisoft’s AVG is a free antivirus program that updates automatically and doesn’t slow down your computer (it just runs in the background). You can download it at: http://free.grisoft.com/
-ZoneAlarm Free (http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html) is an excellent free firewall. It might slow down your computer a little, so if you want a small, just as effective firewall, you can download Comodo (http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/)
-Popup blockers are now usually included in web browsing software. Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/) has a popup blocker built in. If you want, you can also download an addon to firefox that will block ads (AdBlock Plus).
I use avast, as for the popup blocker use firefox and Adblock Plus, fire wall get Zone Alarm basic. They are all free, and they take up like 100 Mb of ram max for all 3
That’s your problem. You want an ALL IN ONE. What makes you think that one program is the BEST for all of the threats.
AVG does not slow down your computer. Use SpyBot to search for threats. Get Ad-aware and run those scans regularly. Use the Windows Firewall that comes with.
Popup blocker… HEY, a good browser does that for you. But if you continue to ignor popups, you will surely get infected with spyware and adware. Use your Ad-aware and SpyBot to clean up the mess that causes popups.
Your BRAIN is your best defense. Do computer maintenance regularly, and try to avoid threats. These tools are meant to HELP you, but can’t possibly keep you out of trouble. So use your BRAIN.
Do this computer maintenance.
– run Disk Cleanup – from the System Tools section of Accessories
– Open My Computer, then Right Click on your C drive and pick PROPERTIES. Pick the Tools section and click on CHECK NOW. Check both tests, and YES, let it run after you restart. You see, CHECK DISK will ensure that your hard drive is working completely. This test might take an hour or so.
– run DEFRAG – from the System Tools section of Accessories.
Keep your anti-virus solution up to date, and run a full scan weekly.
Keep your anti-spyware solution up to date, and run a full scan every few days. I recommend the free SpyBot Search & Destroy that you can get from http://www.download.com
Do all of this regularly, and your computer will run better.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
