   You’re asking two questions there – there are free cleaners but they are by no means the best.

   The most popular free tool is one called "CCleaner" which you can get from http://www.ccleaner.com – however this is not the best because it’s not able to fix many of the errors or problems that the typical PC might have.

   If you want the "best" registry cleaner, it will be much more worth your time using one like "Frontline Registry Cleaner", which will find and fix the most errors on your system. You can see this tool at http://www.fastregistryfixes.com/best_registry_cleaner_tools.html

   Ccleaner is a freebie it is compliant with windows 7. I wouldn’t call it the best freebie to use as ther are better paid for programs that run rings around Ccleaner. As the saying goes you pay for what you get? download and trial System Mechanics 9, you will notice the difference?

   There is no "best one" because each will find something the other has not picked up. I’ve used several registry cleaners over the years and none get everything at one time. If you’re that worried about keeping the registry clean, which I make an effort to keep mine clean, run a few different ones and you’ll see what I mean.
