Assuming you have no hardware issues, do this:
(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner like AVG. Use the latest virus definitions file.
(2) Run anti-spyware scans with Spybot S&D and AdAware
(3) Ensure all Microsoft security updates are applied.

the best thing to speed it up and not take up space would be ccleaner i swear by it and use it everyday. Once it cleans everything out it will only take a couple seconds to run the next time.
however if your looking to keep spyware and viruses out of your computer then you need to download and buy spyware doctor i woud not purchase any other program. I use it for my computer repair business and its awesome. If you can’t afford it then i would suggest getting adaware se and spyware doctor starter edition.
I would also get another dregragment program rather than windows to do a better job but after that you should be up in running good luck

Use the demo versions of Malware Bytes Anti Malware program and RegVac.
They will clean out any Malware infection and remove any problems in the registry. When done the RegVac go to Expert mode and PACK the registry but this should be the only thing done in the Expert mode unless you are an Expert
