McAfee will not slow down your computer. I use McAfee and have no problems. Now, on a side note, if you purchase the total security and install all the options, then yes, some of the extras can cause problems. But, as long as you only install the Anti Virus and the Firewall, then you will be fine. That is all I install on mine. I think this is where a lot of people get a lot of bad vibes with McAfee, they install all the options, but as I stated above this can lead to problems. The only 2 options you need is the Anti Virus software and the Firewall.
But, to tag one as the best would be stretching it. I have heard some good things about kaspersky. The free ones I would not recommend to my worst enemy, been there and done that and have seen way to many people with the free versions that stated they were free only to install McAfee and find out they have hundreds of viruses. I was one of them.
norton and mcafee use a lot of resources and slows your pc down…plus there not the best….i use avast free edition and the free zone alarm firewall and have nothing at all in almost 2 years….its a good light program, and its free….no trial period, same goes with zone alarm…..if you wnna check them out here are the links——-
avast——http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
and you don’t have to upgrade it unless you want to,but really the free edition is just fine……
zone alarm——–http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/free-upgrade-security-suite-zonealarm-firewall.htm
you want to d/l the basic version of the firewall…..free..

It is a matter of opinion. My relative who owns a computer repair store told me to use AVG and SpyBot. They are both free and tend not to effect other things on the computer. Norton’s is a resource hog and can interfere with other programs, he told me not to use it.
If you want a free antivirus I recommend Avast, AVG, or Comodo. If you want to buy, McAfee. FYI McAfee can slow down your computer.
Definitely NOT mcafee or norton. Go with Kaspersky or Nod32.
