They all have their upsides and downsides. Here is my personal list:
Best paid anti-viruses: NOD32 & Kaspersky
Best free anti-viruses: Avast!, Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials
Worst anti-viruses: Rogers Online Protection (Radialpoint), Norton Online Protection & McAfee
They all good. When it comes to network security the best things is have your tools on hands and enabled on your system. That includes a good antivirus software, a good spyware and malvare program, having your firewall ON, have your Microsoft Updates current, run often Microsoft Security Essentials, etc.

For a complete guide to antivirus and spyware software go to Sandi’s homepage. Sandi is a reputable Microsoft Network Specialist:

LISTEN TO ME DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON WHAT PROTECTS HALF OF THE THINGS OUT THERE, GET SPYSWEEPER WITH ANTI VIRUS PROTECTION. big time. Seriously lol its so so so good it always updates and protects against like tons of trash that can mess your computer up out there. SpySweeper with Anti-Virus.
Most computers come with some sort of antivirus software preinstalled, usually Norton (which sucks), McAfee (which also sucks, but is better than norton), though some come with Kapersky. If you are looking for free software AVG, and Avast! are available in both free and retail versions, while Microsoft has a completely free software called Microsoft Security Essentials. My personal favorite antivirus software for any machine (netbooks, laptops, and desktops) is ESET Smart Security 4 (not free), which in my experience has been the most reliable so far.
Norton
