If you want to buy an Anti-virus, my choice would be Malwarebytes. Can be purchased for a one time fee of $25.00, and does a great job at real time protection for virus, spyware, malware, etc..
Free version only acts as removal tool.
Microsoft Security Essentials works ok for a free one.
Edit: Using Malwarebytes as a supplement works great, I use Microsoft Security Essentials also. Although all of the threats (virus, spyware, malware) I have encountered were all stopped and/or removed by Malwarebytes.
NOTE: It is NOT compatible with all anti-virus,
AVG 2011 will not work together.

microsoft security essentials is free and is on your pc . start menu look it up .open follow inst.
I would recommend either Kaspersky (not free) or Microsoft Security Essentials (totally free):

Edit: Malwarebytes is NOT an antivirus. It’s just an antispyware but I admit that it is one of the best in that field. However, it can never be a substitute for a real antivirus. Use it to supplement any AV that you will be using.
