My computer has been running slow lately and my friends asked me if I had done a “clean up” on it. I haven’t, they say when I do it, my computer will run faster. ONLY PROBLEM: I have a ton of pictures/videos, I don’t want to lose them! What do I do?

Your pictures, videos and system files are safe they will not be deleted. The only files deleted will be cookies, index dat files, recycle bin, log files and other “junk” that you don’t need. Download CCleaner and enable all the boxes as well as secure file deletion if you have sensitive files. you can bypass the yahoo toolbar in the install menu. look in settings and also check the 48 hour exception if you dont want very recent”junk” deleted.
Sweepi is also a good program for secure file deletion/cleaner and an easy way to delete programs from your start menu(only from start menu not the actual file). enable all boxes in install menu and run the ruick clean and complete clean up. you can also run the boot manager if you do want to speed up the boot time.
Try installing new windows by selecting UPGRADE instead of New Installation, this won’t wipe off any of ur data or setting.
Hope this helps
You don’t need to delete your files/pictures etc to increase your performance. There are several things you can do to increase the “speed” of your computer.
1) Clean up the disk. Uninstall unneeded programs (especially those that run at startup and/or put something in the system tray), run Disk Cleanup, and defragment the drive. This is a good first step that will almost always take a few seconds off boot time and application loads for any computer.
2) Stomp auto-starting programs. Click Start > Run and type “msconfig” at the prompt. Click the Startup tab and look at all that junk that loads when you launch your PC. Do you really need “Adobe Reader Speed Launch”? Probably not. Turn off anything else that looks useless, but be careful not to disable your anti-virus and important system components.
3) Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. I would recommend using AVG Free Anti-virus, Spybot – Search and Destroy spyware remover and SUPERAntiSpyware remover. These programs are all free.
4) Clean up the registry. CCleaner, available at http://www.ccleaner.com is free and worth running. It will also remove unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.
download CCleaner (crap cleaner) and run it
