Just what the question says. I need to be able to clean the registry by using the Command Prompt rather than starting my computer normally because it freezes up because of what I believe is a registry problem.
Oh yeah, it’s a computer running XP.

i am not gonna say the computer freeze always in these days if it goes over heat and it always happen special these days
but i will say there is no dos prompet to clean the registry ,and even tho u can’t treat win xp through the dos cos it uses ntfs file system which is not supported in dos
and also once some body have his windows screwed up registry and all other kind of malfunction they just format and reinstall windows
if you know exactly what you need to remove then you can type in regedit. But if you are not sure what you are doing you can cause major damge.
There is no command that cleans the registry from DOS. Explain what you want to do.
PS.Scanreg.exe only backs up/restore the registry and works only for windows 98/me
Hello,
Microsoft used to have a registry cleaning program called Scanreg. Try typing that although I am not sure it will work.
Thanks,
Ian
