Registry is the centre database of your computer operating system which contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. You must load the registry whenever you launch any programs on your computer. If the registry is over bloated or with some errors, computer’s performance will seriously be impacted. So, you need to clean up registry and fix its errors.
If you are not familiar with registry, don’t remove files away from it and clean up it easily for you may delete important things that will make your computer in trouble. You’d better choose to use a professional registry cleaner, personally,I like wondershare registry optimizer,it’s safe to operating system.
To wipe away your tracks from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome from various Windows system areas, and from some third-party applications. Your computer gets slow from different sorts of files and registry gets flooded.
To get rid of such things you can install CCleaner.
Its available free at download.com

Well, when you uninstall a program, in the registry there are still the values of that program, so they will become useless, and they are taking some space on the hard drive. For you to get more free space, you will need to delete them. That’s the point.
Well…..
The Windows Registry contains information that is continuously referenced during routine PC operations. Over time, the Windows Registry can begin to contain information that’s no longer valid. Maybe you uninstalled an application without using the ‘Add or Remove Programs’ function in the Control Panel, or perhaps an object or file in the registry got moved. Eventually this orphaned or misplaced information accumulates and begins to clog your registry, potentially slowing down your PC and causing error messages and system crashes. ?You might also notice that your PC’s startup process is slower than it used to be.
I would furthur suggest you to take some better guidance in registry cleaning from site such as http://www.supportdock.com
