Hi, I've just got a new Acer Aspire 5672wlmi which didn't have any recovery or driver CDs. I clean installed Windows XP on a newly formatted hard drive.
For some reason, the computer can't detect the modem, sound card or wireless adapter. I've checked on the Acer website and it says this laptop has these devices. Just wondering if this is normal? Do we need to install the drivers for the computer to recognise the devices? I'm so confused…

Use Acer website for drivers , they will be on there
Driver is basically like a translator between hardware and windows. You need the driver so that Windows can recognize what kind of hardware attached to it
Most hardware (not plug and play) will need a device driver in order for it to run. If you reformat a hard drive without the system disks you will inevitably have to locate your drivers online. Best way to avoid future troubles with this is to take a note of all the devices you have installed, go to http://www.driverguide.com, download your chosen drivers and put them all on a CD Rom for future reference. I have reformatted hard drives so many times using this method.
XP has most up to date drivers installed within its software and it can sometimes locate drivers without trouble. However, lesser known or newer hardware drivers may not be included. If you try driverguide.com and look for your modem driver, then transfer it to CD and pop it in your computer you will have the software. Then just go to control panel and modems and then install new modem. When the choices come up run it from the CD and it should download just fine. Good luck.
