My biggest concern is, I'm wary letting a program dig into my computer, I have no way of knowing if it's going to imbed spyware or virus or something on my system, or steal my information. I see pop-ups for cleaners all the time, but they don't come off as legitimate.

I have used registry mechanic in the past and have had good luck and no problems.
I have used PCTools "Registry Mechanic" for years on hundreds of computers and never had a problem.

Both work very well. However, there is always a "slim chance" that they could glitch your system. Registry cleaners aren't for everyone.
