   You find out that they’re not your real family and that you were kidnapped as a small child and try to find your real family
   You have a brother who is shot and you all deal with it in different ways, i.e. cutting, drugs, alcohol,
   You’re all taken hostage by a group of bad people

   An immigrant family just moved to the USA
   A Haitian Boy’s family was killed in the earthquake how does he deal with it?

   you’re on a vacation, you get mugged, beaten, robbed, kindnapped, you run away, one of your family members gets kidnapped, you get attacked by sharks on a small boat, etc..

   Seriously?

   There’s plenty of room for drama in a family setting. I’m not just going to give you an idea, though. Look at your own family – what are the issues that the focus on, and what causes arguments? "Something bad" has to happen, eh? Well, think about the spectrum of "bad" and choose the sort of thing that your family should face in the story.
