All on the link below…my answer at the top and CHRIS has a good answer too, but see all of them.
Most computers that are running slow are just bunged up with so much trash and they are running too many programs at once, so a good clean-up and stopping unnecessary processes will free memory and resources and speed up the computer.
You’ll also need a virus and malware check as well with any of the free programs available…..AVG. Malawares,Lavasoft Adaware, and dozens of others can all be downloaded free.
The answer on the link isn’t drastic as the questioner asks btw, just normal cleaning and maintainance which will keep your computer running at it’s proper speed, not slowed down trying to cope with loads of muck. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap9VFKeVpsjRGhZWklq5yZIhBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20090818163157AAj2yzB&show=7#profile-info-BalR8ARPaa . . .
The Glary Utilities download has a registry defragmenter which is perfectly safe to use but requires a re-start of the computer when it’s finished.
I run it every month. No problem.
Dnt listen to the cleaning up your registry. If you dont know what you are doing, you may end up having to reinstall windows.. which yea, will def speed up your computer.
The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.
