My guess is that your hard drive is old and tired. It sounds like it is "skipping" while you are installing the OS, then when it it completed, the files are already corrupted since windows can’t find them. Try replacing the hard drive. Make sure you format then use FDISK and setup the hard drive prior to installing the OS.
When you are asking about something as complicated as computers and operating systems, it helps a lot if you give as muchh info as possible (even the ones you dont think are important). For example, what do you mean windows "corrupt"? Is there a blue screen, does it say a file is missing, does it boot into only a black screen, etc.? What computer do you have? What was the original operating system (XP, Vista, Mac OS, etc.)?
If the XP CD you are using is not damaged, then it’s most likely hardware issues (incompatible, defective, missing, damaged, etc.). Computers can crash for a thousand and one reasons so you will have to be more specific.
Run a scandisk on the cd to check integrity. Try a different cd or dvd drive. Maybe a friend has a portable drive you can borrow.>_<
