Yeah, that sounds waaaay to long. Well I have had the same problem, just recently by the way. Ok this is for after you have logged on and your waiting for all of the info. to load before you can start doing anything. When your computer starts to load the info. ok, well before that happens the security(whatever kind it might be) has to check to make sure that everything that needs to be loaded from your start up is all in check. That takes a few moments, after that then whatever you have running in your start up has to load. This is where my problem was, you see that the more you have running in your start up, the longer it takes your computer to load it. So…decrease the load, decrease the wait. That was all that mine needed. Hope it helps and good luck.
do what everyone else has said. (especially the startup programs)
Also you can download ccleaner which will help you computer run smoother.
CCleaner can be downloaded at filehippo.com
If you keep having this problem just reinstall, the NTS files on the computer, Sounds like what my XP did to me, but mine happend because someone unplugged the computer and almost fried my RAM. But if it didnt get unplugged then, I dont know.
If your computers clean, and virus free I would recommend a complete reinstall of the OS. Back up any data you want to keep.
Windows OS degrades over time, and after long periods a fresh install could be the best option.
You need to uninstall or stop any startup programs that you don’t need at startup. To find out what’s running at startup
Choose Start
Choose Run
Type in msconfig
Hit enter
Look under the Startup tab.
I would also run 2 virus scans.
Re-boot your computer in SAFE MODE (this is important!!)
To run it in Safe Mode, as soon as your computer turns on hit the F8 key (repeatedly) until a screen comes up
Choose Start computer in SAFE MODE with network support
Download and install Malware Bytes and AVAST
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button
Download the following ONLY if you don’t have another AntiVirus Program
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Run a FULL SCAN with both programs – They are FREE for about 30 – 60 days..
Might be worth doing a clean format installation after you back up.
Also if its an old machine investing in a new harddrive could pay off
click: Start>Run
type: msconfig
press: enter
click: the ‘startup’ tab
uncheck: every service that your computer doesn’t need to start.
Just about every piece of software feels the need to have some service started up whenever your computer gets started. This can drastically lengthen the boot time of your computer. If you’re not going to use your scanner, why have scanner service runnning from startup? the same thing can go for a lot of services.
By the way when you restart your computer after editing the startup file, it will prompt you with a box telling you that you’ve edited the startup.. just click the ‘dont show me this again’ box and click okay.
