Surely it is. Everyday you will open different files and go to different sites, they all might be unsafe.
why not it seems excessive but its Your preference
use Avast free & reginout for secure, smooth, error free and speedy computing.
You can scan every 5 minutes if you want. You computer wont run faster, but will be clean. But do yourself a favour, do NOT load AVG, it’s way down the list. Use Security Essential, free and far better.
Also MalwareBytes, free,( Run when you fancy), security Essential has a scheduler, also PC Tools free Firewall. The firewall and MalwareBytes from majorgeeks.com
I have used AVG for over 5 years now and love it. You will find that it will automatically scan each day at a certain time or if you boot up after that time it will scan after the computer boots up. You can change the setting but I would recommend that you leave it on the default settings. One of my computers ony takes 15 minutes to scan and the older one about 40 minutes. AVG will keep your computer free of virus etc, but CCleaner is great for cleaning up unseen rubbish that can slow your computer down. AVG runs all the time to protect the computer, but use CCleaner once a week. Hope this helps☺
Well, first thing you must take into consideration is the Anti Virus solution you are going to use.
My recommendation is that you leave AVG and think about using ESET. Doesn’t matter if you get NOD32 or the Smart Security, both are same but this last one has extended features.
Take note that Eset has better proactive protection, runs light and has the faster scanner ever. Also, you can forget about scanning everyday. Any malicious stuff that will try to get into your computer, ESET will get it in miliseconds(or less)!
That means it could be maybe the best Anti Virus Solution ever.
You can find a free trial here: http://www.eset.com/download/free-trial/international
Believe me, i had same wondering few years ago and after trying i can tell you i’ve got totally convinced.
ESET solutions are best in all senses.
Hope this is helpful for you.
You don’t have to scan daily, weekly is just fine. Though nothing will happen if you scan daily, I don’t think your computer will run faster.
Most people tend to forget to scan at all. So the ‘once a week scan’ is what they say you should do. Scanning daily doesn’t affect your pc in terms of damage (slowing down etc.) In fact, it can speed it up if you do a disk clean and defrag at the same time.
Running an anti virus program isn’t what will speed up your computer. The disk clean up and defrag is what speeds it up.
Hope this helps

Is it okay to scan daily?
Yes. Weekly is recommended. The only reason to scan more than that is if you have reason to believe you have a virus or if you have been to websites that you think aren’t on the level.
Choice of AVG?
AVG is a fine choice. It used to be the top rated free anti-virus. It has gone down on the list though as of late due to some things that it didn’t catch. I am by no means trying to down play it. But, other free options are
AVAST http://www.avast.com/index
and Window’s free anti virus
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
Windows hasn’t gotten much face time with the press but it is a good product. It has caught things and kept me from catching things. You can use it as long as you have a valid copy of windows and unlike AVG or AVAST you don’t have to renew your free service once a year. Its forever good.
Note: No anti-virus software will fully scan your computer daily unless you tell it to. Even AVG and AVAST are set to do full scans once a week by default. What they will do is run a surface scan. This basically only checks the files and programs that are actually running on your computer at the time. They will check for virus definition updates daily and some people think this is a part of a fully systems scan.
What happens when I scan daily?
During the scan you may notice that your computer will slow down a little. It all depends on how much you are demanding from your computer. If you are surfing the net, writing documents or playing a game of solitaire you won’t notice. If you are playing more demanding games like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Half Life, and such you will notice a slow.
Will it run faster?
It may run faster if it catches something and gets rid of it. It depends on what it catches. If you want your computer to run faster try using the de-frag and getting rid of unwanted files. Try not to use more than 90% of your disk space as this will slow down your computer as well.
How can you make your computer run faster?
Try using Advanced System Care
http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
It has free a free version that can help you get rid of unwanted files that you may not know about that will help speed things up.
