Windows Live OneCare (free)
Run a "full service" or a "clean up" scan to automatically backup and then clean the your registry.

I recommend a "full service" scan each week. This will update windows, perform a virus and spyware scan, a disk cleanup, a disk defragmentation (if needed), backup and clean the registry, and check for open firewall ports.
I also use CCleaner. For maximum safety with CCleaner:
Backup your registry first before using "Scan for Issues" . Scan for Issues is the registry cleaner. Save the issues found to a file before deleting them.
i use CCleaner for that. i have been using it for about a year and had no problems.
i find all my free stuff at http://www.filehippo.com.
theres alot of other things there to try also.
I believe Tune Up Utilities is the best! try it.. It has got 30 day free trial!
Generally speaking unless you’re continously installing/removing software you shouldn’t ever need to do this. The registry is very dangerous and complex. Even the best software will never totally clean it out and it seldomly affects the speed of the computer.

Try the URLs below then go to Freeware or Downloads.
Try with CrapCleaner! Does a very good job for me! You can download it at http://ccleaner.com/
