MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS
From Microsoft
Yo have to choose one of the best antivirus available online. The Free ones available are
Avira
AVG
Avast
Avast and AVG are quite popular and relaible.
Here is fe information about these
Avast:
This software, which shows sufficient and good enough virus detection and removal, comes with a 60-day trial, after which you must register. A completely free version of this antivirus software requires your email address. Although the performance is not bad, it is not easy-to-navigate and does not provide a progress bar that indicates the progress of the scanning process.
Avira AntiVir:
AntiVir is relatively popular and efficient software that is very fast which comes at the cost of thorough scanning however. One of the disadvantages of Avira is the terribly annoying full-screen pop-ups that open up at random intervals. Overall the virus detection and protection is good enough for it to be ranked at the second position in our list.
You can also look out for some trial versions available.
My best suggestion would be to use Microsoft Security Essentials. It has been rated time and time again to be the best free option for antivirus protection. It does real-time protection, manual and automatic file scanning just like Norton.
You can read about its recent award and download it via this link: http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/windowssecurity/archive/2010/08/12/microsoft-security-essentials-earns-august-vb100-certification.aspx
Personally, I have used many free antivirus options for Windows and I have found Microsoft Security Essentials to be amazing.
One word of warning, however: Be sure to completely uninstall Norton before installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
even though I don’t recommend free anti viruses, you can find them using google. I used avast anti virus for a few years a while ago and I found out that it doesn’t remove every virus it detects. I use Norton Internet Security 2010 and I think it is the best. But whatever you do, don’t install AVG, AVG Anti Virus products aren’t good.
i think ad-ware is pretty good… its free too.
download instructions….
1)search ad-ware anniversary edition
2)once you get to the site click download
3)once it has downloaded i think it does a start up scan
4)and your all set!
hope this helps
I would suggest Avast, Avast now includes anti-virus, anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:

The new Avast 5 kicks some serious keister!
(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict… did I mention that you MUST uninstall old Norton?)
Avoid the anti-virus called AVG. It is wildly popular with children and the computer illiterate but has historically had the lowest virus detection rate of all the popular free anti-virus programs.

i use avg and have never had a virus problem 🙂

there are a whole bunch of really good free anti-virus programs. Personally, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials- it’s very good at catching things as they come in (before they infect the computer), and it uses far fewer resources than most of the others.
