you don’t really need to buy anything.
just be prepared to invest some time.
for cleaning up a slow comp:
PEBKAC things first. clean the comp… outside. canned air, blow out dust, gunk etc. make sure fans work, Psu fan, case fans etc, vent holes clean/un-obstructed.
anti-virus: for free/good there seems to be dueling camps. AVG or Avast anti-virus, leaning towards Avast myself. get one… update it, run it, do what it says.
anti-spyware. malwarebytes, spybot search and destroy… get both, update them, run them, do what they say.
delete, delete delete, …ie, open up control panel, add/remove programs, go through. delete any old software you dont’ use, toolbars or applications, games, anything you don’t use, want or understand. delete delete delete.
go into your files, files… old images, movies, porn, stolen music, actual music, saved game files, documents, resume from 10 years ago. whatever. delete delete delete.
..clean up the trash. go into your web browser. set options to delete temp files, clean out cache, history, whatever.
ms disk clean. start>accessories>sys tools. disk clean. use it, check everything, do what it says.
defrag. …put your hard drive in order. start>accesssories>sys tools defrag. run it. go read war and peace. come back to pretty diagram of blue, red blocks.
cc cleaner… download it. use it. see what it says.
websites exist for further/more detailed ideas on speeding up a comp. eliminating page file, file indexing, searching functions, rounded edges on graphics, etc etc. … "windows tune up ideas" or something in google.
last resort, could consider, backing up your files, doing a reinstall of your OS, or looking into buying more RAM.
but don’t get suckered into "buying" utility programs to clean or de-clusterfuck your comp and they’re freely avail online and just as good as the stuff best buy tries to push on you
