First, it sounds like you’ve got some malware on your computer. Try one or both of these products to remove the pop-ups:
Free – Malwarebytes – Good at removing malware, and acting as a back-up program and scanner.: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
Free – Ad-Aware – Anti-spyware program that, unlike other free anti-spyware packages, has a live-protection module: http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Anniversary-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html
You may need to run these products in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking if the virus tries to prevent you from downloading/running these products.
You may also need to download them to another device/computer/flash drive, rename the mbam.exe module to xxxxx.exe, and then run the file from your USB drive on your infected computer.
2nd, you should know if you’ve got anti-virus software installed on your computer. If not, here’s some info on AV products:
As to the FREE products, Avira’s Antivir has a detection rate of over 99%, includes "root-kit" protection, and uses less system resources. Avast detection rate is around 97.8% and includes "root-kit" protection. Avast Anti-Virus is good if people suggest that, Avira is just slightly better.
Many people praise AVG, but AVG’s detection rate is less than 85% for Script Malware and General Malware, and does NOT include "root-kit" protection in the FREE version…plus, slower scan speeds and a higher number of "false positives".
A good FREE AV/AS mix could be Avira or Avast, with Malwarebytes and AdAware). Or, a good BUY/FREE AV/AS mix could be Kaspersky or Nod32, with Malwarebytes and AdAware).
I’m also considering the new VIPRE as a possible BUY next time based on early reports.
Avira: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html
Avast: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-2239_4-10019223.html
Kaspersky: http://download.cnet.com/Kaspersky-Internet-Security/3000-2239_4-10012072.html
Nod32: http://download.cnet.com/ESET-NOD32-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10185608.html
VIPRE – http://download.cnet.com/Vipre-Antivirus-Antispyware/3000-8022_4-10870576.html
AV Independent Testing Feb 2009 Highest Rated: Kaspersky, Nod32, Norton, McAfee
AV Rated Above Average: Avira, Avast, BitDefender, F-Secure, eScan
AV Rated Average: AVG, Sophos, OneCare

After AV/AS decision, download (FREE) and install McAfee Site Advisor. Site Advisor updates you on approved sites (as you surf) that have been previously verified: http://download.cnet.com/McAfee-SiteAdvisor-for-Internet-Explorer/3000-2144_4-10508464.html
Finally, try Secunia PSI (free). Secunia actively monitors software programs and their latest patches to make sure you are up-to-date with the latest security patches on your computer (Firefox, Adobe, Flash, etc.): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
Here is a list of free online virus scans Safety.Live.com(that one is microsoft’s) Symantec.com Housecall.TrendMicro.com Comodo.com…Comodo.com offers a free security suite plus other free items to protect your online banking and shopping accounts from the makers of Comodo Firewall Pro…Avira.com has free antivirus/antispyware
That might actually be the result of malware (malicious software) on your computer, if you’re sure you used to have antivirus protection – either that or your antivirus subscription expired as you suggest.
If you bought the computer new from a shop, the most likely antivirus programs to look for in your Start -> All Programs menu are Norton (sometimes seen as Symantec) or MacAfee. Sometimes it may even be Kaspersky. If you find one of those, you do have protection but it’s either not working, expired, or Windows Security Center has lost track of it. New computers often get a year’s worth of antivirus protection as part of the deal – when it runs out, you have to do something about it so that you have up-to-date virus protection.
Windows Security Center keeps track of firewalls and antivirus programs on your computer but sometimes it gets into a knot and "forgets" they are there. So if the popups are from a little shield-like icon near the clock, it is quite possibly Windows Security Center BUT it could be a fake antivirus program. Rest your mouse over the icon and see if some text pops up telling you anything else. You can google the text and it might give you a clearer idea of what is happening.
I suggest trying these two links – the first one helps you overhaul your computer and make sure it’s clean and the second one is advice for security on computers that you know are clean:

You’ll find plenty of free software at Major Geeks which is highly regarded. Avast and Avira are both good programs. AVG Free 8 isn’t as well regarded as AVG Free 7 for good reason so give AVG a miss if you are going free.

A good firewall http://www.zonealarm.com
put your arrow on zonealarm products then click compare all products to get to the free one.
These came out of my firewall and antivirus and are save to go into.
I guess you have spam guard or the email tool.
If your mail is not protected, click on options in your email and go from there for spam guard.
Cc cleaner First
Then Get malwareBytes
If that does not work,Get spybot
If all of that does not work,Try to get avast.
If even that does not work,Buy spyhunter.
I have used Zone Alarm Firewall, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just changed to Avast antivirus and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
PCs are under constant attack from viruses, spyware and identity theft. Every day you hear about a new threat to your PC. They’re coming faster than ever before, they’re getting harder to stop and traditional antivirus products are not able to keep up.
Will your antivirus software catch the latest malware that just came out today? In most cases, no, because it simply does not know how to detect it yet. But ThreatFire’s ActiveDefense technology does, and has proven to provide up to 243% more protection when combined with traditional AntiVirus products. See the table below.
you can download it here: http://www.threatfire.com/
look for "Avast"
