Reinstalling the operating system would be the very last thing to do and using a registry cleaner is a very delicate procedure because some cleaners can mess up your computer even more. You should do a disk cleanup on your computer, a disk defragmentation, delete programs you don’t use from the control panel. Installing more memory on your computer would make it faster. If the computer has room for more than 1gb of memory than install more. You should also do a virus scan if the computer has an internet connection. I would recommend these free anti-virus programs: Microsoft security essentials, AVG free, or Avast. A good anti-malware program like spybot search and destroy or malwarebytes anti-malware is also good.
Would you also be kind enough to tell me what operating system you have?
Also be sure to go to run and type in msconfig to remove programs from windows startup.
Reinstalling your os will take longer but is 100% guaranteed to work
Using a registry cleaner – may work or it may mess up your computer so you have trouble using it
If you are going to keep the laptop for awhile longer – Reinstall os and programs – then make an ISO disk image. Then next time your computer is slow due to registry or virus – run the iso image and the hard drive will look exactly like it did when you made the disk image
Run a full Malwarebytes scan. Try Ccleaner instead of whatever you downloaded. If that isn’t good enough, be sure your antivirus is up to date and active (AVG is free and good). All three of those – in order.
Not good enough? Start, Run, Msconfig and clear all the checkmarks on the Startup tab. Restart the system.
Then you can start thinking about a Repair install.
An aside. Any trial registry cleaner will find a skillion gremlins to get your money.
it depends, cleaning the whole thing would definitely be best but perhaps not worth the effort.
a registry cleaner and some other tweaks can go a long way to getting the job done without having to go through the big efforts of replacing all the stuff that you normally use.
unless there is some critical error, i would just go with a registry cleaner, consider http://www.systemmechanic.com. they offer a full range of registry and related services for one low price.
of course there are many out there, i also like http://www.bullguard.com for virus protection cos it offers free live chat 24/7 whenever you run into trouble.that is like gold dust, leaves the others behind.
enjoy
You could go to windows one live care and let them scan your computer and clean registry it’s free they will repair remove and clean.
its most likly not just the registry. so you can either reinstall windows. or download and run a dozen programs and maybe still not work. So reinstall windows youll love your computer when it runs like new. hope i helped you decide.
Finding out what the actual problem is and fixing it is probably the best solution. ("Registry cleaners" that have trial versions are scams – there are many good free registry programs. Download CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ and run it on the registry.)
You could have viruses causing problems too, but the first thing I’d do is wait for the blue screen, then look at the STOP code on the blue screen and go to http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm to see WHY it bluescreened. Then fix that problem.
Reinstalling Windows is like cutting your head off to cure a headache – it WILL work (people without heads DO NOT have headaches), but it’s a little drastic.
What makes you think it is running slow because of the registry? He is right, reinstalling is the best way to go.
