   Most of the time cleaning the registry of even of thousands of entries makes no difference in performance. But the Eusing free registry cleaner works as well as any expensive have buy it product.

   Well you're going to get two answers here.

   Most people will tell you to use the free cleaner "CCleaner" which u can get from http://www.ccleaner.com – but this is BAD because it just tries to find as many problems as possible to make itself look good (why else would it be free)?

   You need to be careful with the regsitry because it's a crucial part of your system. If you screw up one of the important files inside it, you're going to have BIG problems down the line… so you need to be sure the registry cleaner you use will be as "delicate" as possible with your PC.

   Firstly check that there is not a reason for the slow running apart from the registry….

   #1 have you got enough RAM?

   #2 have you got enough free hard disk space as windows uses it for calculations ( google PAGEFILE if you have XP etc) as the system can assign WAY WAY more memory usage than you could ever fit in as RAM so it overflows onto the hard disk

   #3 is everything running slow or only particular applications?

   Check using Task Manager (alt-ctrl-delete > task manager so long as you have Win 2k or above) to see how much memory is being used, if there is little free memory whenthe PC is runing slow you ned to think about 1 and 2

   I like Advanced System Care is good they have a free version it sorts the reg and looks for spyware and checks defrag of drive.

   I have found registry mechanic to be real bad myself. I use CCleaner and every so often I just reformat.
