Use "CCleaner" to run a registry cleanup. It only deletes registry keys that are entirely safe to delete. And, it’s free.
There is a big controversy over whether cleaning your registry actually improves system performance. Most professionals do not recommend this, because it causes more problems than it solves. These utilities will find registry error even on a freshly installed Windows, which is odd. So, I stopped using them. But, they are useful in certain circumstances, such as in your case. So, I use "CCleaner", which is safer. Using software such as "Revo Uninstaller" helps you avoid using registry cleaners.
▬▬▬ Edit ▬▬▬
In light of what "Katherine H" said below, "Revo Uninstaller Free" is a great tool that will uninstall any software that you want and then it’ll scan your system for left over registry and files, and delete them. Here is a nice tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlr2bmeU2KE When you use this program to uninstall software, do not restart your computer when the software you are uninstalling prompts you. You can restart after "Revo Uninstaller" is done doing its thing.
You can use a uninstall program to clean registry. Besides uninstalling unwanted programs completely, Perfect Uninstaller can wipe out all related registry and entries.
