It’s a long story. A restoration cd doesn’t come with the box anymore so don’t search for one – it doesn’t exist. Not to be rude, but somewhere along the way you should have "intuitively" create a restoration cd.
If you can do a F11 while the comp is rebooting you might be able to get to Restore.
If that doesn’t work, you will be able to legally down load a restoration cd. Just type "vista installation cd in your browser", search – and you will find the site (I am assuming we are talking about vista). There are some instructions at the download site that you must follow to be able to restore the comp.
If that doesn’t work you might have to search for the cd at the manufacturer’s site. The price will be approximately $27.00.
If none of the above work, I think you need a new hard drive.
It would be extremely helpful to know what operating system you’re running. Assuming it’s Vista, this could have been a simple matter of leaving the laptop on battery until it ran out, or a hardware problem/failure which you can’t control.
You need to run a repair of the O/S so you need the installation disk. If you don’t have one, you may have to take it into a shop.
It sounds like something has messed up the boot sequence on your hard drive, possibly a program you installed. If you have the Windows XP/Vista operating system CD/DVD, this is the disc it means so follow the instructions. If you don’t, you need to create a boot disk so you can bypass the faulty boot sequence and get your computer running so you can fix it.
There are instructions for creating a boot disk on the Microsoft website for Windows XP – http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305595 – and a download here for a boot disk for Vista – http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/.
Your laptop needs to be set to boot from the CD, to do this you need to go into the BIOS settings which can usually be done by pressing F2 or DEL when you switch on the computer. Then you can boot from the CD and either fix the problem from there or get Windows to start up so you can deal with it.
yes ive had this same problem its happend twice for 2 differnet resons 1 it happend when i had an unfixable virus where i had to wipe my harddrive to fix it would shut down all my antiviruses and when i manualy went todelete it it would shut my computer off it was smart lol and the virus started deleting important files where windows needed the windows XP instalation disc to "repair" the operating system by replacing the files that wer deleted…..and #2 i put another stick of RAM in my computer and the RAM was bad (i bought used) and it said that there has been a recent hardware or software change…..you mostlikly have a virus or your computers breaking harddrives failing etc because you have a laptop they die faster the avarage laptop used daily has the average lifespan of 2-3 years just a possibility
use a boot disk to fix it (windows installation cd works) …
if you don’t have it download boot disks from here
http://www.bootdisk.com/
try to find a boot cd on ebay from your sister’s laptop
I think you downloaded a virus through a program/song or whatever.
You could’ve also downloaded a program that fucked up your system.
If you can’t find anything on ebay try to find a computer place to get it checked out. Maybe you installed too many hard drives or added a part that is malfunctioning. Anywho, I found a link where people have similar problems to yours.

Something you might try…
As you’re starting up your computer, before it starts loading Windows, press the button (Usually F12, F8, or Delete) that lets you choose to boot in Safe Mode.
If it comes up, you can probably go back to system restore and undo anything you’ve done that might have caused the error.
If that doesn’t work, it’s probably a hardware error and you will need to take your computer in to a repair shop to get it fixed.
1st of all, I gotta ask u. wat kind of computer do u have, and did perform a system recovery?
if you have not done anything new to it, like installed anything new then its a virus. A file from the boot directory seems to have been messed with. try restating in safe mode. and restore windows to an earlier date when it used to work good. see if that works, if not, reformat it. only choices~
This is clearly a vista machine that has had the boot file corrupted (an especially delicate and complex thing in Microsoft’s latest offering).
You will not have received boot discs with vista and will have a recovery partition from which you can perform a startup repair to fix the problem.
If you cannot boot to the recovery partition (which may not be possible if the boot manager cannot see the windows installation or the recovery partition) then download and burn the bootable recovery disc. Neosmart are authorized by Microsoft to distribute these files. They consist ONLY of the recovery tools, you cannot perform a full installation of the OS from them.
