The hard drive light will flash whenver the drive is being accessed.
Make sure there are no unnecessary programs running
CTL-Alt-Del
and make sure you are spyware and virus clean
your computer is swapping out memory from the small amount of RAM that you have to your hard-drive.
more than likely these are background processes
if you ran a defrag and it is still slow, then back everything up…it is probably going to die soon. You will have to replace the HDD.
might be your graphics card.
probably your comp is spamming or sending stupid e-mails to everyone with a virus attached without you knowing. see if your internet is plugged in when the blinking goes evry second. If not then do ctrl-alt-del and see the processing and see what makes the ram and hard drive work so much.

With the computer games these days having a sizable amount of RAM is better than upgrading processor speed. You seem to have the graphics card all set, just need to get 2 gigabytes of RAM in there. Depending on the arrangement of your expansion slots for RAM, you may not be able to get 2 gigs in. But anything more than 512 and you will see a definate improvement in your whole computer, even outside of games. In addition, memory is very affordable right now. Go check it out at newegg.com I buy from there alot.
