I have an HP Pavilion 513n with windows xp and it's SOOOOOO SLOW! I want to speed it up and everything on it is useless junk, because we have a new computer, but I don't want to install the sims 2 on mt new computer. will completely deleting everything on the old computer speed it up much? If so, any tips on how to delete everything?

Deleting all the files and programs will turn your computer into a doorstop.
Reinstalling with format will return it to out-of-the-box condition.
Uninstalling the unneeded programs, full AV and malware scans, and repair install might be the best compromise.
Delet yes, you get more memorie. thats what makes your computer run faster is the memorie. Once your done deleting, Defrag the computer, this will organize it and that will help too!!
Good question. You could re-format your hard drive, but that would be kinda hard to get windows back. Their is many ways to speed it up. One way would be deleting all the old software. The best way is to go into your controll pannel, and click on "add or remove progrms". You can delete all your old programs. Seeing that you probley dont want to get into all the hard ways to speed up your computer (upgrading ram, new hard drive, ext.) i recommend downloading this-
http://www.ccleaner.com/
it will speed up your pc and delete old files. Hope it helps!-

you have 2 options
1. Reformat – Pop in windows xp disk, boot from it. format everything and start fresh!
2. Cleanup – Do spyware/virus scans, delete cookies, empty trash, delete temp internet files etc …
In my professional experience i would recommend option 1. You will get best results with that. Just be sure to backup your data!! any more questions feel free to email me therockk@gmail.com
You can delete anything you want as long as it doesn't ruin the computer. What I mean by that is as long it doesn't have something to do with your system that could corrupt it by deleting it, then it's o.k. to.
Nope, i don't think so, but it will make available space and speed up saving data. But it wont speed up virtual memory, because the files on your PC are stored on the Hard Disk, and are not permanently being used. The virtual memory is controlled by your RAM, or Random access Memory, which, for example, is responsible for keeping the work on a word document open before you save it to the hard disk.
One way of speeding up you computer is to stop the amount of files working at the same time, for example, anti-viral software/ messanger/ internet explorer/ or any other files can slow each other down when they are all working at the same time.
In other words, it's not the files on the computer that slow it down, but the files working on a computer.
If you still have a problem with your speed, you could think about buying a little extra physical memory to help with the tasks. But check what you already have – Go to My Computer, then go to help, and select About my computer. Look near the bottom of the window that appears and check the 'RAM' or 'Physical Memory'. If it's below 512MB, consult PC World or somewhere, or another question concerning how to install more memory. It shouldn't have to come to this, so just look in task manager (Ctrl + Alt+ Delete) and look at the programs that are runnung. But Don't end any "Process'" !!! 😀
Sorry about all of the infomation, but it will help. 😀
