I believe my friend has a virus on her computer. She was downloading from lime wire and the screen went blank. Wont boot into safe mode and she does not know if she has any virus protection. Assuming she does and it’s just not up to date here—if I pull the hard drive and put it into a hard drive enclosure and hook it up to my laptop to scan it if she has virus protection will it clash with my virus protection and lock up my laptop.

Your laptop will just see it as a slave drive and not even know it has a windows installation on it. Just make sure you have a good AV and its up to date before you do it though. Sounds more like a corrupt installation on her machine (crashed during an update or critical system files are missing). I doubt an AV scan will fix it, even if you do find any.
no. it wont crash ur system.
No, two different anti-virus clients wil not affect PC performance, although they may clash with each other and lower the effectiveness of each. To avoid this, disable the worse of the two ASAP after booting up and connecting the hard drive.
In my experience, LimeWire is a virus haven, and even if your anti-virus detects the infection initially, it may not be properly deleted (as I found out)
