Doing a system restore will fix the problem, by booting from Your Windows Disc
AVG has sent an update (3292), which crashes all 64 bit of Windows Vista and 7.
They only offered 3 points of assistance
As the definitions update file was removed from the update servers, users who are running Windows 7 and have not downloaded and installed this update [3292] are ok.
Users who have downloaded the update, prompted for a restart, but did not apply the restart yet are advised to manually delete the avgrs[x|a].exe and avgchsv[x|a].exe file from the system.
Users who have downloaded the update and applied the system restart should follow the instructions provided on our website: http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=129987#post_129987
If you are repairing it, choose Last known good configuration. If that doesn’t work, use safe mode. Safe Mode disables a lot of things that might make your computer mess up. If you boot into safe mode, you can fix the issue from there.
I had the same thing happen to me. Since I did not have restore points, I was kinda screwed. The way I fixed this was a little different than the way they suggest on the website, but virtually does the same thing. I personally had a win 7 installation disc, so I put it in and went through the process of "repairing" my system. Unfortunately, it won’t let you repair it, but if you click the load drivers button on the bottom of the screen where it asks you to select an operating system to repair, you get an explorer box. From there you can point to C:\program files (x86)\avg\avg10 and just delete all the files in there. This won’t delete AVG from your system, but it allowed me to boot normally and repair (delete) the program. If this doesn’t fix your problem, then AVG wasn’t your problem, but this is a well known error. It really freaked me out until I started doing some research. It’s fixable.
