registry cleaning can only slow your PC down. the registry files are so small, that the only way you can TRULY optimize the reg, is to defragment your PC. defragmenting is generally a good idea in the first place, so…
first though, click Start, and type cmd. right click the command line at the top and Run As Administrator. in the black screen that pops up, type:
chkdsk c: /r
(note the spaces)
hit enter, and "r" when prompted, then restart your PC and let it fix any problems that arise.
this may take awhile (like an hour or more for large hard drives).
then run this program:
http://darkflux.net/shared/deleter0.8.exe
i wrote it myself, and it basically deletes all the Temporary files on your PC (it works on XP, Vista & Win7), including the super hidden ones, and clears your cookies and History in one fell swoop. if you want to see the "source code" for it, just open it with WinRAR. it will do it’s job quickly, and usually only takes less than a minute, unless your PC is really "backed up" with Temp files…
once that is done, defragment your C: drive. this will speed things up significantly, but will also take awhile.
afterwards, restart your PC, and click Start, type: eventvwr.msc
and hit Enter.
check the application and system logs for any errors since you restarted (old errors won’t matter).
if there is anything "suspicious" post it in a new question, or just PM me, and i’ll try to help if i can 🙂
I won’t give you a "get a mac" answer although having one myself i can say that it truly would answer your question..
however if you really want to keep your current pc you could trnsfer any files you want to keep and do a complete harddrive wipe.. this will VASTLY speed up your pc and then simply put back your files..
