give that a try, enter in your correct key, you must be connected to the internet to use this
If I understand you, you can’t activate the copy of windows from your second laptop that you installed on your first laptop.
I would play dumb. I’ve called the activation number many times. They ask you if you have this copy of windows installed on any other PC’s. You say ‘NO. Only this one.’ They ask you why this is happening. You tell them you had the motherboard replaced and now its asking you to activate again. Don’t tell them where your recovery CD’s came from. Just tell them you got the system board replaced you re-installed windows from the recovery disks and the activation failed.
What follows is a linguistically challenging exchange of letters and numbers with an Indian phone drone who doesn’t want to be there anymore than you do. You read her the numbers she asks you for. She reads what you need to type in to free up the activation. Thats it.
Alternatively and more legally, you can still buy XP for a few more days from places like newegg.com. They have it for like $65.00 or so the last time I checked. Just buy it and install it on your laptop. Download your drivers from HP or use the drivers from your other laptop’s recovery CD. You’ll be totally legal and have a great guilt free computer life.
You could also check ebay for a set of recovery CD’s.
Good luck.
