install revo uninstaller and use the auto-run manager to stop programs you do not
need to auto-run at start-up then use the rest of the tools to help your computer.
i use auslogics defragmenter plus avg 2011 for an anti-virus awesome anti-virus
also try gizmos freeware there may be stuff there you can use.
all the trial free stuff is bare bones and won’t do a complete job, The only one I know of is Spybot Search and Destroy that is really free, and I only download it from zdnet.net, they are a trusted site. Their download section you can search for other cleaners, and you can view reviews by other peeps that used them. And they tell you if they are shareware or freeware.
Ccleaner is awesome. But it’s not going to speed things up much if at all.
One of the biggest issues with old computers is the hard drive being fragmented. Get Defraggler (made by the Ccleaner people) and run that. It’s much better than the Windows defrag tool.
Don’t bother with registry cleaners unless you’re having some serious issues, they will likely just cause issues down the road.
For security I use Windows Security Essentials (it’s anti-virus), SuperAntiSpyware, and MalwareBytes.
here’s what you need.
malwarebytes
advance system care 4
microsoft security essentials
these will work great. get rid of the rest. all are free
