   If you haven’t done so already, you might want to install SP3, as it fixes quite a few issues with hangings and slowness as well as a multitude of other things in its SP.

   I have the links below that describe each fix and the link directly to the install to SP3 for you.

   Press control/alt/delete so as to bring up the task manager, clik on processes then click CPU, perhaps twice so as to see what program is using all the cpu power.

   1) click START, click on RUN and type msconfig
   [if for some reason you don’t have run listed click start, right click on an empty spot a little button labeled properties will pop up. click it then click customize…. go to advanced scroll down till see run command put a check in the box and hit apply…. ]
   return to step one…..
   msconfig will open, click the tab labeled startup then de-select adobe reader and other unneeded programs. be sure to not unselect your antivirus programs. ….
   after completing that hit apply….
   close with restart…. when the window pops up select the check box then hit apply. done

   P.S.
   sevice pack 3 is not recommended for xp
