may be the registry has problem, i think you should scan your pc!Registry cleaner is an excellent Windows Registry Cleaner that helps you scan your PC, safely clean the errors & invalid entries , freezing and crashing, and repair registry problems to speedup your computer performances. It is easy to use.http://pc-software-store.info/registry-easy.htm
Every Microsoft Windows operating system has a registry. The registry size keeps growing when you use Windows. When the registry becomes very large, your computer’s performance will be decayed and unstable. Installing and uninstalling software will make your registry a mess, leading to decreased PC performance and causing computer crashes ,freeze, blue screen and etc.http://computer-e-book-money.com
Registry cleaner uses a high-performance detection algorithm that will quickly identify missing and invalid references in your Windows registry. With a few easy steps Registry cleaner will scan your entire Windows registry for any invalid or obsolete entries and provide a list of the registry errors found. After that you can choose to clean list items with selection or automatically repair them all.
then your pc can be speeded up! you can try!
Good suggestions to obtain capacity. There are other methods to speed up computers – including additional RAM.
Maybe reducing number of open/active programs,
And more…………….
Just plugging it in won’t speed it up. You need to reduce the load on your main drive by offloading a bunch of the data to the other drive. The system doesn’t know to use your external drive without your directing it to.
Once you remove some files you should defragment the main drive to get the benefit of the extra room.
You would have to move some files to the external hdd to notice the speed increase–this is because Windows (or whatever you have, most likely) will be running it’s programs and checking it’s components on your internal drive.
Just moving over the files that aren’t attached to Windows (pictures, movies, etc) should be enough, though; if that is your problem.
<After the poster above me, yes, defragmenting may help, but that is not the reason for your main speed decrease. As you seem like you may know, once your hdd reaches a certain point, your computer simply doesn’t have the space it needs for everyday tasks at full efficiency. However, defragmenting after every install or just every now and then is a notable help, so I highly reccomend you check this site. Don’t worry, this particular article works for more than just Vista.

If your drive near capacity, your files are probably fragmented which is probably contributing to your performance issues.
I’d backup the entire disk (you do have a backup right?) and then remove some of the files and use them off the external drive.
You should try to free up at least 10% (15% would be better) free space and defragment the drive.
Clean windows registry can speed up the computer.
Over time, you install new programs, uninstalled unimportant programs, update software’s, install new devices,
download files from the web, etcetera, hence embarking all records in the registry system.
This is normal, but it is not wise to leave it untouched.
Once in a while, you have to check and remove files that are no longer in use to maintain the speed of your PC.
Clean registry make pc faster.
