the registry of your operating system needs to clean, This type of problem occurs when registry is overloaded with irrelevant information and corrupted files. Registry files are the files that give your computer the instructions for what to do next. If these registry files get corrupt or misplaced, your computer fails to understand what to do. In these instances, your computer loses control, eventually leading to a crash, freezes or some programs will not open, so it is necessary to clean and fix the errors, this can be done manually but depends if you have some know how to sort out the corrupted files, or use PC optimizer registry repairer software like Reginout
The Windows operating system constantly refers to the registry to get information about all of the components such as hardware and software which are installed on the computer. The registry tells Windows what to do and how to access the various programs, files, and processes. However, the registry can contain bad information which sends Windows off doing useless tasks or running unneeded routines. Sometimes errors occur including the freezeing. Other times the system slows down. Because of the sheer number of factors that can affect the registry, there’s no one size fits all approach. You can’t just go into the registry and remove the bad information because it’s nearly impossible to decipher which information is good and which information is bad. That’s a job better suited for software. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://clean-computer-run-quickly.com to you ! You can try ! Good luck!
do not install a new OS as your problem my be hardware, here are the steps to take
1.download DFT here http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/dft32_v416_b00.iso
instructions here http://www.hitachigst.com/support/downloads/#DFT
make the boot CD, boot it and run the advanced test only,
if the test comes up OK, start up in safe mode with networking, go to folder options and make sure show hidden is on, run your antivirus in all user accounts in safe mode
also make sure you cooling fan is working
A clean install should fix it so long as there is no issues with memory or otherwise. I’d go for XP or Windows 7 though, Vista is a nightmare.
Its not a sure shot answer, the case of the freeze may be software error in OS or a disk read error or memory read error, in worst case CPU over heating due to improper cooling.
Since you are not getting any blue screen of death we can assume its most likely heating problem,
most of the laptops suffer form heating problem.
I have had the same problem with a couple different computers, and each time I installed a new operating system, the problem with corrected. XP has been the best for me.
If you still have problems after spending $120 then you need to take it back and tell the boobs that did it that the problem isn’t fixed.
Getting rid of Vista would be a great idea. Either upgrade to Win7, or downgrade to WinXP.
Without knowing the results of the diagnostics, all we could do is guess. Did any of the diagnostics indicate a heat or memory problem?
Freeing is usually due to not enough RAM. Vista needs a bare minimum of 4GB to run programs (and that means 64 bit – 32 bit Vista can’t address enough RAM to operate properly). I’d install either 6GB of RAM (which you can’t do on that laptop) or Windows 7 (with 4GB). You can’t run Vista on 2GB of RAM and not have it freeze. Vista will run in 1GB – it won’t run programs well in less than 4GB. (And it won’t run them all that well in that small amount of RAM.)
BTW, shutting the power off can cause all sorts of problems with Windows. When you get a freeze, just wait it out – even if it takes a day. Waiting won’t damage Windows, shutting the power off could.
