I found a trojan and some spyware on the registry of my PC. Would a reinstall restore the registry to when I first bought it? The thing is, I’ve done that, and the trojan and spyware still shows up in the registry keys when I do a scan.

Your registry is saved on your Hard Drive, just like windows, and just like… anything…. besides the BIOS ROM.. But anyways, doing a full format, not quick, but full will mark all sectors on your Hard Drive as clean and will allow any information to be written on it. There is no way that any information does not get cleared out after doing a full format. You keep downloading porn all the time and the trojans/spyware/viruses will follow you :).
You must remove the virus files too. If you just delete it’s entry in the registry, it will be written again in a few seconds. Look in the registry to see what’s the executable file of the virus, then start your computer in command line and delete the file. That should do it.

Yes indeedy – thats what a reinstall does. Keep in mind, your data goes with it. The registry is the database where windows manages all its numbers and values for…everything. Lots of problems in there, so its always good to reinstall every now and then
I would add that, as soon as you get windows back up, download an anti-spyware program and an anti-virus. Good free ones are AdAware and AVG, respectively. You would be SHOCKED how fast your computer will freeze up without these things. Once when I did a fresh install, I was browsing around the internet for software cracks (websites notorious for malware), and within 4 hours I had to reinstall the entire thing again. Yay?
Back up important files onto a CD/DVD and do a clean install of Windows. That’s going to be the only way if your antivirus software isn’t helping.
No, a restore will not fix this problem.
Sounds like you need to get better Virus software.
You need to delete the Trojan out of your registry, but be warned.
Play with the registry and you can stuff everything.
Backup the registry before you do anything.
If you are not confident take it to a Professional.
