Must have picked up a nasty virus despite having a firewall and good anti-virus software. Geek Squad does a good job but it is 0 just for the diagnostic I think, and I don’t know if they charge extra for virus removal.
I’m pretty computer savvy but I haven’t been able to figure this one out.

Yes if you go to pretty much any local computer shop they do it for under $100
Check out reimage. Reimage combines AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, Registry Cleaner and Full PC Repair. It is all in one

geek squad sucks.it would be cheaper to buy a recovery disk and reformat.
Actually, yes.
My shop normally does repairs and malware removals for $50.
We’re just off of Falkenburg on Windhorst Rd. Near the Sheriff’s building and an HCC campus.
Depending on when you bring it in, I may be there myself (I don’t work at that office right now) and can handle it cheaper.
do a search online for FREE AVG ANTIVIRUS
AVG has a free version of their program and you could download that and install it and then run a scan.
How about free?
Here are good and free online AV scans:

Good Luck.
Sounds like a rootkit virus it can hijack your browser but without any windows open it can send you to advertising sites etc. Download "rootkit revealer" from Microsoft or Sysinternals and run it, These things can disable normal antiviruses and anti malware. Go to Task manager and under processes see if there is an oddnamed process sometimes just random letters and or numbers and end process. Then go to Start>run and type in msconfig and click OK, Look under the "startup" tab and uncheck the same process name if it appears there. The registry will need to be cleaned up but normal programs should be able to do that when you have disabled the rogue program. Basically you need a friendly rootkit to get rid of a nasty one. Not all rootkits on the computer are bad, – windows uses them and so do some security programs.
use this, That is not what they would do, they would just format and reinstall. this is free, update, run full scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Just create your free account, then post your issue in the cyber safety section of the forum. You wont be sorry.
Geek squad sucks, and they’ll probably just tell you to reformat anyways. You should just reformat yourself and save yourself 120 dollars.
Geek Squad is like a fast food franchises. People are feel safe getting the same unhealthy experience from people that dress in a familiar uniform, in a familiar looking location. I understand that people need some type of relationship of trust with something they don’t understand well. I guess I don’t blame them, they can get better or worse service from a cheaper independent company or consultant. How do you find the right one? I can out-do Geek Squad multiple times on service and price, but I only do referrals. Usually a friend, neighbor or family of someone I have done business with before. The relationship of trust works both ways. I want reasonable people to work for too.
About the virus infection, often trying to clean a virus infection from within a infected system is like being stuck in quicksand, help has to come from a source outside of the quicksand pit. You would have to clean it from a clean system. This can either be done with a either boot disk like UBCD4win, or by putting the in a another computer as a secondary drive.
