Windows XP install wont load past a certain point, can you help me?

Its a laptop, that had some kind of Windows test version, I guess the one right before they came out with Vista, because that’s what it looks like. It says "Windows 2007 Test version only". So I was just gonna get rid of it. I have a New Windows I wanted to load onto it.

It boots alright, starts to load some of the drivers, get to the screen where it asks you if you want to repair press x, install press ENTER.

Before I have the time to press install, the whole thing shuts down.
Every time.

Can you help me?

The stats:
Computer = Compaq Presario V2000
Software = Windows XP Home Edition (not a rip, store bought)

Also, the laptop may have a nasty virius from the previous owner. It shuts off if I boot from CD, but also Ive found, if I do disk clean up, the laptop will shut down as well. I think theres something protecting it self. Am I crazy lol

i have windows vista ultimate adn wehn i firsted installed it i did alot of tweaking to make it very fast, and it was. the shutdown, startup and running was really good. but it has been 2 weeks now that the startup has really slowed down. and this is the part where it is really slower that before:

i think this happened after i installed a game, but i uninstalled it again and it hasnt changed the speed of the startup, its still slow.

BTW I ALWAYS PERFORM DISK DEFRAGMENTER, REGISTRY DEFRAGMENTER, DISK CLEANER, REGISTRY CLEANER, AND VIRUS SCANNING. I HAVE ALSO DISABLED EVERYTHING FROM "MSCONFIG" EXCEPT FOR MY INTERNET SECURITY.

the shut down and running is still good, but its only the startup so why has my pc slowed down?? please help!!
oh yeah and i have also disabled many services that i dont need.

About: blank has not affected my homepage. Every time I close a window in IE6 I hear a click exactly like the one that sounds when clicking the "Back" button or when clicking the "search" button on a search engine. I have noticed in the status bar when I close IE6 that "Opening page about: blank" flashes VERY quickly in the status bar on the bottom left of my screen, then the window closes. Each time that flashes I hear the click. I’ve run my McAfee and Windows Defender to try to catch but no luck. How do I get this removed and stopped?

My computer runs slow and after a scan by Norton found these two that the anti-virus can’t get rid of. How do I get rid of them. Is there a special download that will do it?

my pc is very slow . i tried every thing registry cleaner etc. but still it is very slow. please help me?

i have scan. the pc is a pentium III with 255 RAM but. windows XP but it take lot of time at startup and to open a program what should i do please recommend free software only. please please help. thanks god bless u all
