I somehow caught a virus on my laptop(thanks to my little brother) and i used the smithfraudfix(used it twice before with no probs). I cleaned the registry in safe mode and rebooted the pc in normal mode. Starts with blank blue screen and takes about thirty minutes for icons to appear on screen. cant execute any programs or click on any icons. Do I have to reinstall windows again or is there a way i can get around to make it work? I have a sony vaio vgn1nb130 with 2 gb memory running windows xp media edition.

all reg cleaners have a backup to undo the changes made. have you tried that?
You could try rebooting the computer and pressing F8 to get to the Advanced Boot Options… go down to "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if that solves the problem.
If you can still get in to safe mode it may be worth going to MSConfig from the Run menu. Click on Start-up and get rid of all unneccesary start up items, then click on Services, put a tick in "Hide all Microsoft Services" and remove all unnecessary ticks there too.
Click OK, restart the computer and hopefully that’ll solve your problem.
If not then it may be a good idea to wait for the icons to appear, go back to the Run menu and type… "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes).
That can take about 20/30 minutes but it checks all the windows core files and replaces any damaged files.
If still you’re having problems download Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org as you may still have an infection. If you’re using an ethernet connection I’d recommend using Safe Mode with Networking. Malwarebytes will install and run fine in safe mode.
Hope this helps.
that sounds about right. time to reinstall the OS. Dont ever run registry cleaners unless you know what you are doing. And if you do run one of these programs scrutinize every single entry one finds and UNDERSTAND what you are deleting and delete the entries it finds individually. there is no way in hell i would just run one of these programs and just hit the clean button. actually you might try system restore first and if that fails boot to safe mode and try lastknowngoodconfiguration. i doubt system restore is going to work for you if you have recently had malware on your pc. good luck
Reformat your hard drive. Obviously that program is not as good as you think it is.
