I just bought a PC from ebay. All of the programs are uninstalled, but there are still a lot of registry entries from this long gone programs. Does anyone know of a free program I can use to clean the registry of this clutter? Thanks!!!

Download RegScrubXP–http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it’s original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
I use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Seems to work pretty well.
The first time I used it it removed over 600 entries from the registry. I did not have it remove MRU’s or history lists. You may want to on the first run to remove entries from the previous owner. Everything still worked fine afterward. Now, I only use it occasionally and it removes only a couple of dozen entries.
Very important advice for use with any registry tool. Create a restore point before using this tool! There is an option in this program to force the creation of a restore point before making any changes. I highly recommend setting this. This way, if the program messes up your PC, you can always go back.
Try CCleaner, a free software that can clean your registry and a lot more…

Rather than manually purging the registry I would recommend using a commercially available free download like "RegCleaner".\
SystemMechanic also seems to work well.
