I need to repair my Windows XP software on my system and I've been researching it and it says I need to set my system up to boot Windows XP from the disk. The only thing is I don't know how to set my system up to automatically boot from the CD-ROM. Is there someplace I can go to change this option? Any help would be appreciated.

Go into you computer's BIOS/CMOS settings and set the CD-ROM as the first in the boot order sequence.
To get into the BIOS/CMOS settings depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Upon starting up the computer, the key to get into the CMOS settings should display on the screen. If it doesn't, try repeatedly pressing the Delete key, the insert key, the F2 key, the F10 key. Those are the most common keys to get into your CMOS settings.
After you set the CD-ROM to first in the boot order, restart your computer with the Windows XP CD in the CD drive. You'll see a message that states to press any key to boot from the CD-ROM. Be sure to press any key on the keyboard or it will boot from the hard drive.
Yes there is something called the BIOS. When you open your computer before windows starts (when you see a black page) you should find near the bottom a message that says press (some key) for settings or properties. Usually this key is delete. (this depends on the motherboard)
you keep pressing this button until a page appears with some settings. Try to locate an option called Boot where you can set the booting option to boot from cd and you need to set booting priority. (this means what should the computer look for first to boot from) Set the cd first.
When you are done locate a tab to exist and save. The computer will restart and you should be fine.
Remember you need to have either the original cd or a bootable copy of the cd.
Hope that helped.
ok try this forst you put the disk in ur pc and boot up it should say then boot from cd you hit enter and thats it … if it doesnt you go to ur bios setting and set 1st boot cd rom i think you press F2 as the pc boots up to get to them settings
ok what you want to do is to start up the computer, and go to your settings pressing F2 i think…? then, it should come up with this ghetto looking screen asking you about computer configurations and stuff. One of the tabs should say something about booting from a cd/floppy/ect. click CD and then restart the computer with the CD INSIDE. then you should be able to boot from there.
when your computer boots you may see a lot of things listed. Before you change any settings look on this initial page for an option that says boot selection/options (or something like that) and press the required the button if it is displayed. You can then select the CD drive and boot to it.
If you do not see any boot options listed on the first screen, look for something that says press __ to enter Settings. The normal keys are F2 and Del. If instead when you boot your computer you usually see some logo of your computer manufacturer, press Esc when the computer first boots and hopefully the computer will display more information. If not, restart the computer and this time click one of the keys mentioned above while the logo is up.
You should get into these settings known as the BIOS. You will have to scroll from screen to screen using the keyboard. Navigate around using the directions on the page to the boot settings. Use the directions to set the CD drive to the default or first boot device. Then pressing the button (button combination) to save the settings and restart the computer.
When you restart the computer, depending on your XP disc it may prompt you when it detects your disc to press any key to begin setup. Just press any key and setup will load.
